It is a good news for Indian cricket and Virat Kohli fans. Virat Kohli has been named as thee Wisden’s leading cricketer of the Year 2017-2018. This is second year in a row that Virat Kohli has been named for this. Mithali Raj, India women’s captain , was named the leading female cricketer of the year after she became the leading run-scorer in the history of women’s one-day internationals cricket.
Virat Kohli got this distinguished award due to his brilliant performance throughout the year. He scored highest runs in all three formats of the game including 3 double centuries in test cricket, in the year 2017.
It was Virat Kohli’s brilliant performance and leadership due to which India grabbed the number one spot in Test cricket and ODI cricket in the year 2017.”For the second year in a row, Indian captain Virat Kohli is Wisden’s leading cricketer in the world,” Wisden editor Lawrence Booth said.
“In all formats in 2017, he scored 2,818 runs – more than 700 ahead of Joe Root in second place. Three of his five Test hundreds were doubles, and the other two unbeaten, and his 1,460 one-day international runs were unsurpassed.”
It is only the second time that and Indian cricketer has been named as Wisden’s cricketer of the year back to back in 2 years . Before Virat Kohli, it was Virendra Sehwag who got this feat in 2008- 2009 .
Meanwhile, Afghanistan’s Rashid Khan was the first ever to be named the leading Twenty20 cricketer in the world.
